Expo-style event to showcase area businesses

By David Richards

Nearly 30 of Byron's businesses and organizations will come together Thursday, Oct. 25 for an expo-style event sponsored by the chamber of commerce.

The Byron Community Showcase will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at Byron Middle School, and those in attendance can expect food samples, dog tricks and a chance to win a $700 travel voucher.

"The main purpose is to educate and inform the community about what our local businesses and organizations have to offer," said Kelly Domaille, a member of the chamber's marketing committee.

The showcase is free to the public and will feature a variety of businesses, from  Leashes and Leads to Second Street Pizza.

Proceeds from the event will go toward marketing the showcase next year as Domaille said she hopes it becomes an annual occurrence.

All of the booth participants are chamber members, and the night also offers a chance to win a $700 travel voucher.

The Byron Area Chamber of Commerce purchased the voucher from local company PMC Travel.

Here's how it works.

Those in attendance will receive a card that has a spot for every booth at the showcase. Get a representative from each booth to sign the card, and it's eligible for the travel drawing.

Domaille said that 27 booths have already reserved spots for the occasion.

The Byron Community Showcase was the brainchild of the chamber's marketing committee and inspired by the successful version held in Dodge Center.

"I think the community may be presently surprised as to what organizations and services we have," Domaille said.
