musical harmonies at WC Survival Days
By Alexa Nash and Melanie Dobson
There will be a variety of events during West Concord Survival Days. Some of the contributors to the weekend's happenings are local churches. And for those who enjoy music and dance, there will be bands in the afternoons and evenings catering to a variety of tastes from polka and old timey music to good ol' rock n' roll.
On Friday, July 26, one could go to the Methodist Church Coffee Shop and Lunch from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. and at the end of the day enjoy the music of "Key Lime Special" during the dance under the Big Tent from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
Saturday, July 27, at 1 p.m. the library program "Magician Star Michaelina," funded by MN Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund, will be presented at the Methodist Church. The popular Czech Area Concertina Club will play from 2 to 4 p.m. at the West Concord Historical Society gym. The Concertina Club has some 200 members, they may not all make it to W.C. but the group will guarantee two hours of fun with invitations to sing along, dance and laugh and perhaps groan at the band leader's jokes. The evening dance under the Big Tent invites participants to swim with "Jonah & the Whales" from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. This group has become an annual standby for Survival Days..
On Sunday, July 28, the Community Worship Service will be led by West Concord area pastors and lay people under the Big Tent at 9 a.m. From noon to 4 p.m., Trinity Lutheran Church will host a Pie and Ice Cream Social also in the Big Tent. After the grand parade at1 p.m., and water fight at 2, folks can wind down to the music of "Casey & the Good Timers Band" from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
