On June 1, 2013, Scott Seim's long time dream of owning a local bar finally came true.

Scott, along with his wife Koreen, bought the Mantorville Saloon from former owner Steve Williams. "I'd always told Steve if he wanted to sell the bar, to talk to me first," Scott explained. "So he did, and I am so happy he did; it's not often you get the chance to buy your hometown bar." Scott grew up in Kasson, and Koreen grew up in Mantorville; the couple raised one daughter Cortney in Mantorville. The bar business also runs in Scott's family as his brother Marv owns Marv's Bar in Hayfield.

Scott spent most of his life working as an over-the-road truck driver, until he injured his shoulder this past year and was advised to find a different line of work. "I was ready to be home more," Scott explained. "I was really sick of being gone all the time."

Scott's dream of owning a bar stems from his love of being with people and hearing their stories. "It's always fun to get to know different people," he said. "We are enjoying our patrons."

Scott has no huge changes planned for the saloon; the weekend staff stayed on to help Scott and Koreen, and their daughter Cortney helps as well. "It's a family business," he said. "The one thing we did do was move as much of our business locally to support the local businesses just they way we hope people support us." He explained that he moved the insurance to an agent in Mantorville and bank locally as well. They will continue to have DJ's and entertainment during the weekends and have happy hour specials all day on Sundays. "During the football season we'll be serving snacks and running specials."

During Marigold Days on Saturday, September 7, the saloon will be having Train Depot DJ on their back patio during the evening. They will be hosting a bean bag tournament on Saturday. Sign up will begin at 11 a.m. with bags starting to fly at 12 p.m. start. The tournament is limited to 32 teams.

Scott emphasized that they are grateful for the support of the community since they have taken over.
