Ana shops for soldiers for Christmas

Ana Amunrud remembers the times when her sister was in the Army and missed Easter, birthdays and other special events.

"Tyler is home now, but we cannot imagine her being away for Christmas," her mother wrote in a note supporting Ana's confirmation service project. "We want to try and help some soldiers overseas who will not be home for the holidays, some for the first time, have a happier holiday away from home by sending them gift packages."

Ana is an eighth grader, the daughter of Chad and Kelly Amunrud, and a member of the United Methodist Church of Dodge Center confirmation class.

The items they are collecting can be dropped off at the United Methodist Church at 20 First Street SE in Dodge Center on Monday - Friday from 8:30 to noon or Saturday from 9-11 a.m. People can also call Ana's mom, Kely, at 507-951-0436 to arrange other drop-off times.

They will be collecting items through November 11 in order to have time to package and ship the items in time for Christmas

"Food items are by far the most popular request," Kelly said. "Don't include pork or pork products, alcohol, pornography or glass containers."

Suggested food items are: beef jerky, instant soups, hard candy, chocolate candy, slim jims, cookies, crackers, chex mix, nuts, trail mix, chips, Doritos, salsa, gum, microwave popcorn, breath mints, dried fruit, canned fruit (pop-tops), granola/cereal bars, dry cereal, tuna packs, chicken packs, spices, condiments, summer sausage, Snack Cakes, Easy Mac and Cheese, Sunflower seeds, instant coffee, hot chocolate mix, tea bags, Gatorade powder, Kool Aid (w/sugar), Easy Cheese, pudding cups, instant oatmeal, instant oatmeal, instant grits, Ramen noodles, Ragu express and juice boxes.

Suggested toilet articles are: sunscreen, Chapstick, insect repellant, eye drops, cough/cold drops, Advil/Tylenol, toilet paper. deodorant, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, dental floss, mouthwash, bar soap, laundry soap, cotton balls, Q-tips, contact lens cleaner, hand sanitizer, after shave lotion, cologne, feminine hygiene products, brush, comb, hairspray, hair gel, hairbands/clips, nail clippers, nail file, nail polish, nail polish, body powder, foot powder, body lotion, kleenex, nasal spray, socks, undershirts, underwear, disposable razors, shave gel/foam

Other suggested items: Frisbee, nerf balls, beach balls, electronic games, playing cards, CD player, CDs, books, magazines, envelopes and paper, sewing kits, sewing kits, wash cloth, towel, small flashlight or booklight, disposable camera, batteries, zip lock bags, board games, plastic silverware.
