There's a new hairstylist at Byron Hair Clippers and Tanning, joining longtime owner Sandee Buckingham.

The salon, located at 11 Second Ave. SW Suite B, (507) 775-6403, offers a full range of cuts and color services, and Heather Gansen is now renting space at the location.

"I do cuts, colors, perms, waxes, you name it , we can do it all," Gansen said, who moved to Byron with her family last year from Mason City, Iowa, where she was born and raised.

She and her husband have two children.

"My family keeps me busy," she said, when asked about how she spends her free time. "I spend a lot of time with family."

Gansen, whose hours go by in the company of country music and tubes of texturing wax, styling gel and transforming paste, has been cutting hair for more than a decade.

Her favorite cuts are the ones that make a recognizable change when they're finished.

"I like the transformations, the befores and the afters," Gansen said.

In addition to appointments, Byron Hair Clippers also welcomes walk ins.

The hair salon has been a longtime Byron staple, first at the strip mall where the American Legion is, and now at the current location.

"I give them to Heather," Buckingham said with a smile about walk ins. "She's trying to build, I'm trying to phase out."

Buckingham has owned Byron Hair Clippers for more than three decades.

As for Gansen, her secret to cutting hair is simple.

"It's all about attitude," she said. "If you go into it with a bad attitude, it's not going to come out right."
