Julio Baez appeared at his arraignment hearing with his attorney on Thursday, June 21. Baez is facing two counts of criminal sexual conduct in the first degree and a single count of sexual conduct in the third degree. Unconditional bail was set at $1 million and conditional bail was set at $500,000.
According to the criminal complaint on June 4, 2018 Olmsted County Sheriff's Office Detective Nelson was assigned to investigate a sexual assault case. He was advised that some of the abuse happened while the Baez family was living in Byron from November, 2006 to the spring of 2011.
On June 5, 2018 Nelson interviewed victim number one who was born in 1993 and is a family or household member of Baez. Victim one reported that Baez sexually abused her between the ages of 5 and 16 years-old, and they lived in many different locations.
On June 8, 2018 Nelson interviewed victim number two who was born in 1988 and is a family or household member of Baez. Victim two reported that she was sexually abused by Baez starting when she was four-years-old. Victim two described extensive sexual abuse while the family lived in Rice and Dodge County as well as Olmsted County. During the time the family lived in Byron the second victim was between the ages of 18-23 years-old.
