School bus driver, Robert Mielke, 40 of Stewartville was charged with 3rd Degree DWI in Dodge County District Court on Tuesday, July 31.
According to Sheriff Jim Jensen, On July 30 at about 8:59 am, the Dodge County Sheriff's Office received a complaint of poor of driving conduct of a school bus in Hayfield. A deputy responded to the area and located bus number 97 of the Engle Bus Service on First Street SE, while talking to Meilke the deputy detected an odor of alcohol on his breath.
According to Jensen, he was transporting children to ZED Summer school classes and there were children on the bus at the time that the driving complaint was witnessed but they had been dropped off prior to the officer making an arrest.
Mielke was arrested for driving under the influence and held in jail overnight. He was formally charged with 3rd degree DUI, Commercial Vehicle 0.04 or more and Alcohol Related School Bus which is zero tolerance. After the court appearance he was released on his own recognizance and is subject to court imposed restrictions. He will appear in court again on August 8th.
