10/1/2012 4:08:00 PM Farm accident in rural Dodge Center injures local teen
The Dodge County Sheriff's Office received a call of a Farm Accident North of Dodge Center at about noon on Saturday September 29th. The Dodge Center Fire Department, the Dodge Center Ambulance and Dodge County Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene. Mayo One was also dispatched to the accident location.
The accident occurred on the Rodney Thompson farm where Mr. Thompson was combining beans. Mr. Thompson was unloading beans into the front wagon that was parked on top of a hill to the south of where his hired hand was unhooking 2 empty wagons. His hired hand, Derek Jensen (17 years old) had just unhooked 2 empty wagons from the tractor at the bottom of the hill, when the 2 other wagons (the back wagon was empty and the front one was almost full) rolled down the hill, striking the 2 wagons that Derek just unhooked. The tongue of the empty wagon struck Derek throwing him into the back of the tractor. Derek was able to free himself and crawl away. Mr. Thompson called 911 when he saw what happened.
Mayo One landed on the County Road and Derek was transferred from the ambulance to the helicopter. Derek was then transported to St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. Derek had visible injuries to his head and right leg. His condition is unknown at this time.
