Deanna Kvam has changed the name of her business from Deanna Kay's Hairstyling to The Hair Barn. She has also added another stylist to her shop, Jesse Phelps, and more staff and changes are in the works.
Don't let the new sign fool you, Deanna Kay is still there and very excited about the expansion and changes she is making to better serve her customers. "We will have more for you," she said.
Deanna has owned the salon on Main Street in Dodge Center for eight years, before that she had a salon in West Concord. "When the school moved here it made sense to move over here," she said.
Why The Hair Barn?
The new name was a suggestion from a client, according Deanna. "She liked the decor in the salon," she explained. "She told us one day we should rename it The Hair Barn since the decor uses barn wood." The wood was taken off an old barn from the farm where Deanna grew up.
"I like the feel of the salon," Jesse Phelps said. "It's cute and cozy in here and it's very laid back." Jesse rents booth space from Deanna. She worked at salons in Kasson and at City Looks in Rochester before making the move to Dodge Center. "I enjoy being my own boss," she said. "And it's nice to work just a few blocks from where I live."
Jesse is currently offering $10 haircuts on Mondays.
Not only is the front of the shop getting a face lift, the interior is seeing some remodeling and expansion as well - making room for additional booth space. A couple more stylists have expressed an interest.
The Hair Barn is open Monday through Saturday, days and nights, to match customers' schedules.
