6/6/2013 5:31:00 PM Recent burglaries in Dodge County
Between May 21st and May 31st, we had 6 rural burglaries in the SE part of our county. These burglaries have included:
Tower Copper Thefts
Stolen handgun from unlocked vehicle
We believe that in some cases, our suspects are driving around during the day looking for properties to victimize either during the day or evening hours. We know some of these suspects have approached rural homes that appear to be unoccupied, and knocked on the front door to check if anyone is home. If someone answers, they will come up with some excuse (looking for directions, etc) why they are there. If nobody answers, they break in.
We encourage our rural citizens to do the following:
Be aware of any vehicles they see during day or night time hours that they don't recognize as local vehicles (especially pickups, pickups and trailers, vans) CALL AND IMMEDIATELY REPORT TO THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE.
If a stranger shows up at your door looking for directions or other excuses. Try and note the persons, vehicle, and license plate (if safely possible) AND IMMEDIATELY REPORT TO THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE.
If a situation makes you question whether or not you should call it in.....call right away. We would rather you call in 10 times and it be a false alarm versus you not calling that one time resulting in another burglary/theft victim.
Let's work together to try and prevent more of these burglaries from happening! If you have any questions regarding rural safety, please call the Sheriff's Office at 507-635-6200.
