Claremont Pub takes over Hogfest planning from chamber

By Tara Lindquist

The Claremont Pub has taken over the job of planning for Hogfest this year. The Claremont Chamber of Commerce has planned the event for several years but due to members no longer having time do all the planning any more, they chose to no longer do it.

Owner of the Pub Desiree Arsenau has made a few changes to the three-day long celebration. A motorcycle poker run has been added to Saturday events. The run will start at the Pub at 10 a.m. Proceeds will go to the Yellow Ribbon Program - to raise suicide awareness, or to Alzheimer's research. A dart tournament has also been added to the list of activities this year; it will begin at 11 a.m. and will take place inside the Pub.

The beer garden and stage will be set up in front of Claremont Pub on Front street this year. The street dances on Friday and Saturday nights will again be free. The band for Saturday night will be The Grind, a cover band from Minneapolis. Friday night it will be DJ Jumpin' Joe on the stage.

The festivities will kick off on Friday at 5 p.m. with the Fire Department Open House and a Jaws of Life demonstration. The Kids Pedal Tractor Pull also begins at 5 in front of the Pub.

The Citizen of the Year award will be presented at 6 p.m. on the stage, then runners will take their marks for the Hog Jog at 6:15. At 7:30 the GSTSP Garden Tractor Pull will take place followed by the street dance, with DJ Jumpin' Joe.

Saturday morning serves/pitches off with the annual volleyball and softball tournaments at 8 a.m. The poker run begins at 10 and darts at 11. Kids games will start at 11 a.m. and run all day. The mud bogs will start at 2 p.m., followed by the annual pork and sweet corn feed at 4. The Grind will begin to groove at 8:30 p.m. for Saturday night's free street dance.

The Claremont Legion is hosting a pancake breakfast on Sunday morning starting at 8 a.m. The Hog Fest Car Show also opens at 8 a.m. At 10 a.m., the Antique Tractor Show will be on display with awards being given at 1 p.m. The grand parade will start at 1:30. The American Legion Auxiliary Ice Cream Social will take place at 2 p.m. followed by the raffle drawing at the Claremont Pub at 3.
