Calling all scare crow artisans
By Tara Lindquist
Do you have a business, organization, church group, scouting troop, or family that would like to get a little creative this fall? If so, The Red Barn Learning Farm would like your help.
The Red Barn Learning Farm (RBLF) is holding their first fundraiser, for an organization that they hold very dear to their hearts, Camp Companion.
Camp Companion is a non-profit organization that rescues cats and offers discounted spay and neutering for feral or farm cats as well as updating them on their vaccinations. "We had Camp Companion here at the farm and our barn cats were a part of their trap, spay/neuter vaccinate and release program," owner of the Red Barn Learning Farm Brenna Scanlon explained. "They're a great organization and we'd like to give back to them and help them raise some money." That's where area business, organizations and groups come in. "We're having a scare crow contest," Brenna said. "We're asking anyone, group, business, scouts or families to design a scare crow and donate it to the farm." The scare crows will then be on display from October 1, through October 13 at the Learning Farm, patrons will have the opportunity to pay one dollar to vote for their favorite scare crow. The Red Barn will do the hard work of setting up the scare crow once it is dropped off at the farm. "We're hoping to get thirty scare crows," Brenna said. "Right now I think we have about five that have confirmed they are going to build a scare crow so we have a ways to go to reach our goal."
Anyone interested in building a scare crow for the contest is asked to have it delivered to the Red Barn Learning Farm by September 29. There are no rules to the competition, you are encouraged to get as creative as you like, but are asked to keep it family friendly.

More about Camp Companion
Camp Companion is a 501c3 organization established in 2003. Based in Rochester, MN, the organization is totally driven by volunteers. Camp Companion is dedicated to providing low-cost spay and neuter services for feral, farm and stray companion animals. The organization is funded solely by donations, fundraisers, grants, and adoption fees. All funds received are used for veterinary expenses and the cost of care incurred for the animals waiting for their forever homes.
Through their spay /neuter efforts, they encounter kittens and stray domestic cats that need rescue services and a forever home. The group has no shelter instead they rely on foster homes to care for rescued pets. Every animal offered for adoption is spayed or neutered.
