second spook house
By Tara Lindquist
The Hayfield Fire Department will be hosting their second annual Spook House on October 31, November 1 and 2. The Spook House will be set up inside the Hayfield Fire Hall.
The Spook House began last year as way to raise money for local children's organizations like the Cub Scouts and sports teams. The Fire Department, partnered with the annual Halloween Carnival that the Chamber puts on.
Kids will be able to tour the fifteen decorated theme rooms that are set up throughout the fire hall. Fire fighters and EMS personnel dress up and become part of the Spook House to make it a little more realistic. The spook house is not recommended for small children or "scaredy cats" due to the realness of the displays. There is a $2 entrance fee for kids and $5 entrance fee for adults. The spook house will run from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. all three nights. The carnival will only take place on October 31, from 7 to 9 p.m.
All the money raised from the spook house and the carnival will be divided up among the organizations that have a booth during the carnival. "We just do it to help the kids," Fire Chief Paul O'Brien explained. "We had a lot of fun with the spook house last year and it was successful so we decided to do it again this year." The department chose to expand the number of rooms from nine to fifteen this year.
Last year there were 425 people that went through the spook house, they are hoping for another successful year. "It's not just for residents of Hayfield," O'Brien said. "Anyone is welcome to bring their kids and enjoy the carnival and the spook house."
