Claremont City Council Levy increase set

By Tara Lindquist

A 2.5% levy increase was approved during the Claremont city council meeting on Tuesday, September 11.

The council approved the 2013 budget and the 2013 levy request with only Mayor Ginny Bush, Councilwoman Anita Kerns and Councilman Rolland Brown present. The two absent members led Mayor Bush to add a discussion item onto the Agenda - attendance of council members at the meetings.

Due to Dean Gray and Jeff Louks being absent from the meeting, Mike Bubany with David Drown Associates was asked not to attend the meeting because they could not make decisions pertaining to the RK&T Development without the entire council present.

"We all get paid the same amount of money a year whether we are here or not," Bush explained. "I just want to throw it out there that maybe a change should be made, if you're not here you don't get paid for the meeting." Bush also pointed out she plans on making no other changes but thought it should maybe be addressed when the next council and mayor take office in January. "I won't be here so I don't want to do anything about it now but when council members are constantly absent it throws us all off kilter and requires us to have more special meetings."
