Kern bids farewell
Anita Kern's final motion as a Claremont council member was for adjournment after being thanked by council members for her many years of service to the community. Michelle Welch will be taking Kern's place on the council next year. Kern thanked fellow council members for their support for Claremont and encouraged residents to attend council meetings.
The council approved a request by Maintenance Supervisor Gary Gray to purchase a 2004 Ford pickup truck with a lift for the Maintenance Department at a maximum cost of $12,000.
A 2013 city budget and levy of $361,190 was approved and the levy adopted.
The council approved a resolution providing for the issuance and sale of $2,900,000 general obligation utility revenue refunding bonds. A recommendation to adopt post-issuance compliance policies and procedures was tabled until a review is completed by the city attorney.
A public hearing was held on mowing assessments but no comments or questions were received. After the hearing, the council approved a resolution certifying unpaid bills to Dodge County to be collected along with property taxes on affected properties.
The firemen were at Claremont Service Center Saturday, Dec. 8 for Toys for Tots and collected two boxes of toys and $200 in donations, which will be used to buy additional toys.
First Responders went on 47 runs during 2012, down from 75 runs in 2011.
Sorg reported that the EDA commission and the Planning and Zoning commission each have an opening to be filled in January.
