Greek house gets
free utility connections
For hours at their meeting July 22, 2013, the Mantorville city council discussed the already-approved dog park near the water tower and the already-determined utility hook-up fees the city should charge the Mantorville Restoration Association to reconnect the 1880's Greek revival-style house the MRA moved from one location to another.
In June, the council had approved a 30 percent reduction in the fees but at this meeting, after hearing arguments by several MRA members at this and the first July meeting, one council member changed their vote and the city is allowing the MRA to connect the building to city water and sewer for nothing.
The fees are $614 for water connection and $2,639 for the sanitary sewer connection.
A group of residents that live near the proposed dog park location asked that the location be changed for the facility.
Two years ago, when the facility was approved, members of the founding group had knocked on every door in the city limits and either spoke to the resident or left a flyer about the park. The group had also researched all locations within the city and selected the land near the water tower as the best location.
The council will meet again at 6:30 p.m. Aug 12 at city hall.
