11/4/2013 3:38:00 PM Mantorville City Council
Budget talks continue
The Mantorville city council members are determined to keep the tax levy steady this year and not increase city residents' property taxes. It's a tall order considering the city is facing two construction projects in 2014; piping wastewater to Kasson for treatment and beginning work on the Seventh Street drainage problem.
At each council meeting, the group painstakingly reviews budgeted items, asking questions about everything from the possibility of hiring an intern for summer help to engineering costs associated with infrastructure projects.
Also, at each meeting, council members ask about township plans to pave Fifth Street East.
Council members agreed to change their regularly scheduled Nov 11 meeting to Nov 4 because of Veterans Day. On that day, a public hearing is scheduled to discuss moving the carriage house from Kasson to a location behind the county maintenance garage on Main Street. The old building was donated to the Mantorville Theatre Company by the city of Kasson.
The council will meet again at 6:30 p.m. Nov 25 at city hall.
