Edna Tverberg

The funeral service for Edna Tverberg, 90, of Hayfield will be at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday (June 17, 2014) at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hayfield,MN. with Rev. Paul Hauschild officiating. Burial will follow at West St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery in rural Hayfield. Mrs. Tverberg died on Saturday (June 14, 2014) of natural causes at Fieldcrest Care Center in Hayfield, where she had been a resident since April of this year..

Edna Florence Genora Thompson was born on February 9, 1924 in Hayfield Township, Dodge County, Minnesota. to Johnnie and Annie(Boysen) Thompson. She was baptized May 23, 1924 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hayfield and confirmed there on June 26, 1938 by Rev. Knutson. She grew up on the family farm and attended country school and Hayfield Highschool. Edna was married on May 17, 1943 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin,MN. to Reuben L. Tverberg. Following their marriage the couple moved to the Thompson Family Farm, a century farm in rural Hayfield, where she and Reuben, raised their family and continued to live for many years. Edna was an active farm wife and homemaker and was also employed at Hayfield Window Co. for 13 years. Reuben was a lifelong farmer. The couple moved into Hayfield in 2008 and celebrated 70 years of marriage in 2013. Mr. Tverberg died on March 14, 2014. Edna was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hayfield and was active in it's Ladies Circles. The Tverbergs were both members of the Farmers Union, and volunteered with the association that has been restoring the Tverberg Cabin at E. St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Rock Dell,MN. This historical cabin was built by Reuben's grandfather - John Tverberg. Edna volunteered for many years with the Fieldcrest Care Center Auxillary, making resident visits. She was known for her delicious brownies which she shared with many neighbors and friends on special occasions. Edna enjoyed gardening, canning and pickling, keeping a clean house, playing cards, and car rides with Reuben in the spring and fall, to check the crops. She loved time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Edna is survived by her daughter - Lou Ann (Gary) Stanton of LaCrescent,MN; daughter-in-law - Margaret Tverberg of Hastings,MN; 5 grandchildren - Troy(Val) Tverberg of Raleigh,N.C., Todd(Paddy) Tverberg of Toronto,Canada, Scott(Korrin) of Hastings,MN., Lana(Sam) Tomandl of DePere,Wisconsin and Pastor Jason(Carla) Stanton of Onalaska,WI. ; 13 great grandchildren - Courtney, Jasmine, Bianca,Cayla, Ryan, Chloe, Maximus and Annika Tverberg; Sarah and Rachel Tomandl; Sophia, Andrew and Caroline Stanton. She was preceded in death by her husband - Reuben, her son - James, and her parents.

Friends may call 2 hr.s prior to the service at the church on Tuesday morning.

Arrangements are with Griffin-Gray F.H. in Stewartville.
