Menton Grove, 91, of rural Kasson passed away on Saturday, November 10, 2012,from natural causes at Pine Haven Care Center, Pine Island, MN, where he had been a resident the past two years.
He was born April 25, 1921 in Cherry Grove Township to Martin and Bertha Grove. He attended local schools through the eighth grade and then began farming with his father.
Menton married his wife, Marilyn (McCready) on June 15, 1952 at the United Methodist Church in Kasson. They resided in rural Kasson, where they had four children. He farmed there for 55 years.
Menton served as Canisteo Township supervisor for 21 years. He was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Kasson having served on the pastoral call and building committees and also worked at the lutefisk dinners. Menton enjoyed farming, going to auctions, visiting with the neighbors, and most of all spending time with his family.
Menton is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marilyn, of Kasson; daughter, Marcia (Steve) Simonson of Rochester; son, Marvin Grove of Kasson; son-in-law, Steve Cloutier of Rochester; four grandchildren, Dan, Adam and Mike Simonson and Keith Cloutier; two great-grandchildren, Kyle and Austin; half-sister, Ruth (Richard) Lorentz of Plymouth and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Arla Swee, Berdella Swee, Burnette Beckstrom and Ruth Walker; two children, son, Mark and daughter, Marie Cloutier.
A special thanks is given to the dedicated workers at Pine Haven Care Center for the care he received there as a resident and also to nephew, Larry Swee, for his daily visits with Menton.
Visitation will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church, 301 8th Ave NW, Kasson, MN, on Friday, November 16 from 5:00-7:00 pm and also one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November, 17, 2012 at 11:00 am, at St. John's Lutheran Church with Pastor Randy Fett officiating. Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Kasson.
Memorials are preferred to the charity or organization of the donor's choice.
