Sand Creek Adeen Caroline Johnson, recent resident of Bloomer and Sand Creek, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at American Lutheran Home in Menomonie. She was born on February 19, 1923 in New Auburn to Juno and Clarella (Hackett) Johnson. Her high school years were spent in Pittsburg PA, where she graduated. She received her Bachelor's degree from UW-Eau Claire, and took her first teaching position at the Navajo Lutheran Mission and School in Rock Point AZ. Always a strong Christian and skilled as an artist, she constantly produced coloring books and storyboards based on the Bible to supplement her teaching. Though this philosophy often got her into trouble, she never wavered in her beliefs. Adeen went on to teach preschool and first grade for almost 40 years: in Byron MN, Reedsburg WI, Hartford WI and the University of Superior Campus School. She received her Master's in Education from UW-Superior. After retiring, but still an educator, she published "The Sand Creek News," distributing it to surrounding communities. The ever popular paper was noted for its humor, strong political views and solid base of Christian philosophy, as well as a lot of local news. Always involved in the local scene, one could say she was an "activist" of the most positive sort.

She is survived by one sister: Deyonne Kjos of Arizona; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Juno and Clarella; brother: Juneau Johnson; one sister: Beverly Halvorson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at New Hope Lutheran Church in Sand Creek. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Olson Funeral Home in Bloomer is assisting the family. Online condolences may be expressed at olsonfuneralhomebloomer.com. Memorials may be given to New Hope Lutheran Church or a charity of choice in her name.
