Mavis Elaine Nelson

The funeral service for Mavis Elaine Nelson will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 104 1st Street SE in Hayfield with Reverend Paul Hauschild officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Hayfield. Visitation will be 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 22, 2013, at Czaplewski Family Funeral Home, 501 2nd Street NW in Hayfield, MN and one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday.

Mavis Elaine Nelson, 79, passed away on Saturday morning, October 19, 2013, in Dodge Center, MN.

Mavis was born on May 6, 1934, the daughter of Oscar and Ethel (Scharberg) Bjornson in Olmsted County, MN. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Hayfield High School, where she meet the love of her life, Lowell "Lewie" Nelson.

They were married on November 29, 1952, in Rock Dell, MN and spent their lives farming east of Hayfield. She was a homemaker and was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hayfield. Lewie and Mavis enjoyed traveling and spending their winters in Florida. She enjoyed going to Flea Markets and garage sales looking for treasures, but Mavis' greatest treasure in life was her family, especially her daughter and son-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mavis enjoyed sewing, knitting, gardening, antiquing, and her many pets.

Mavis is survived by her one daughter, Jennifer (Dennis) Johnson; grandson, Chad (Amy) Johnson, great granddaughter, Marie, all from Hayfield, MN; and granddaughter, Carrie (Ryan) Saxton, great grandson, Gavin, all from Owatonna, MN; two sisters, Ruth Keenan, Mendota Heights, MN; Betty Bjornson, Eagan, MN; one brother, Ardean (Carma) Bjornson, Hayfield, MN; and sister-in-law, Arlene Bjornson, Hayfield, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell "Lewie"; two brothers, Lloyd and Paul; and one sister, Helen McEmber.

The family prefers memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church or Alzheimers Association.
