It's a two-game win streak for the Byron football team, and the Bears are riding the momentum into this week's rivalry at Kasson.

Byron scored a 22-14 victory at home on Homecoming Sept. 28 against Cannon  Falls.

And it wasn't the win that was as impressive as how it was done.

In addition to the Bears' known potent passing attack, Byron's special teams came through in grand fashion as did the defense, which held the league's top rusher to less than 100 yards.

"The defensive run scheme that (defensive coordinator) Roy Kratt put together and the way the kids executed worked really well," Byron head coach  John Austinson said.

Byron led 10-0 after an Andrew Root field goal and a punt return that Ricky  Brown took 65 yards for a touchdown.

In the second quarter, Jack Nelson completed a 55-yard touchdown pass to Thor Knutson to give the Bears a 16-0 lead. Byron led 16-7 at the break.

In the second quarter. Root would drill two more field goals to put his team up for good. Root connected on field goals of 22, 26 and 37 yards on the night.

"We gained confidence in our kicking game," Austinson said. "Our special teams played well."

Nelson completed 12 of 19 passes for 221 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. He also had 21 carries for 93 yards.

Knutson led in receiving with seven catches for 135 yards and a score. Dustin Davis led the team in tackles with 11. Max Zamzow finished with an interception.
