On January 5th the Byron Dance Team traveled to Henry-Sibley High School to compete in their dance invitational. The three jazz teams competed against other A and AA schools including Austin, Kasson-Mantorville, Duluth Denfield, Zimmerman, and St. Croix. Former BDT dancer/coach Danielle Huse is now part of Duluth Denfield's coaching staff. She was able to watch, and oppose, her former team and BDT coach, Rebecca Huse, her mother, for the first time. All dancers enjoyed seeing her again and cheered her team on.
BDT's JV Gold team, lead by captain Megan Beighley, competed first in the jazz B-squad category. While they did not place they showed huge growth in their dance abilities. The JV Black team, lead by captains JoJo Oxley and Kim Morris, brought home the 2nd place trophy in the JV category. Byron's JV team has only 5 dancers and were able to defeat teams much bigger in size. Kasson -Mantorville narrowly topped them for 1st place. Captains Brooke Kostinec, Sarah Fitzgerald, and Katie Guenther lead the varsity jazz team to a 1st place finish to bring home the championship trophy. Austin placed 2nd and Kasson-Mantorville came in 3rd.
The two JV teams were also in action at the home basketball game on Friday January 4th. The crowd enjoyed the half time entertainment. The teams will be competing again at the Century High School Dance Competition on Saturday January 12th.
