By Charro Coleman
The boys track team cruised to an easy team victory in the early season indoor meet hosted at RCTC. The boys scored 78.5 points to take first. KW finished second with 42.5 points, Cannon Falls and Chatfield finished tied for third with 42 points and Hayfield finished fifth with 21 points. The boys were a bit shorthanded as well with the play, speech and boys basketball team advancing to state, but the boys that competed did a great job and we are looking forward to having the other boys join us soon.
The boys won three of the four relays and took second in the other. The 4x800 got the meet started off for the team and finished first in a time of 9:15. Jake Bieber, Jonah Gehrt, Alex Ondler and Ian Thomason made up the relay. The 4x200 relay ran a very nice race as well taking first in a time of 1:39 and consisted of Jordan Hickey, Drew Fuchs, Thor Knutson and Micah Conti. The Medley relay took second in a time of 4:27 with Nate Bahr, Spencer Woldemar, Nick Sigrist and Ian Thomason. The 4x400 relay of Sigrist, Conti, Bieber and Andrew Sorenson finished the meet with another first in a time of 4:02.
Both the sprinters and distance runners had solid nights individually as well. The boys placed three in the 55 dash with Thor Knutson finishing second with a time of 7.12, Jordan Hickey was close behind in third with a time of 7.22 and Nate Bahr finished fifth in a time of 7.28. In the 200 dash Nate Bahr crossed the line in a time of 25.49. Thomas MacGregor had a good opening race in the 400 finishing second in a time of 60.9. In the 800 Alex Ondler and Jonah Gehrt finished one two with Alex crossing the line in a time of 2:19 and Jonah close behind with a time of 2:21. In the mile Andrew Sorenson opened his track career with a very nice race finishing third in a time of 5:32. Sam Marolt also had a solid run finishing fifth with a time of 5:37.
The field events went well for the boys as well. Spencer Woldemar cleared 5'4" to take second in the high jump. In the pole vault the boys took second, third and fourth. Robert Mesenburg and Nick Sigrist each cleared 11'6" for first and second and Malaci Flamson cleared 7' to take fourth. Spencer Woldemar picked up another second place in the long jump with a leap of 16'10. Jacob Ostreng also jumped his way to a second place finish in the triple jump going 37'1. Brian Burroughs picked up one more second place finish in the shot put with a throw of 45'10. The boys next compete on April 2nd at RCTC again. Weather permitting the team will be outside on the 4th in the annual "Duel to Rule" meet between KM.
