Cam Rutledge went six innings on the mound for Hayfield getting the win against Houston at home. It was Hayfield's first win on the season. Rutledge was backed by his defense and received run support from his offense. It was a 2-1 one game with Hayfield leading after 5 ½ innings until they added eight more runs in the sixth inning to give the Vikings a big 10-1. Houston had a chance to do some damage in the fifth inning when Rutledge struggled some at the start of the inning walking one batter and hitting two with pitches but he was able to get a couple batters to hit ground balls for outs to get out of the inning leaving runners on second and third and allowing only one run to score. Cole Kruger came in to pitch in the seventh inning facing five batters before ending the game. Hayfield played well throughout the game. They were patient at the plate reaching base on eight walks. Hayfield's offense was making contact with the ball. Houston's pitchers were only able to strike out two Hayfield batters.
