Hayfield volleyball has a tough time

The Hayfield Vikings (7-1 overall, 2-0 conference) traveled to Cannon Falls this past Tuesday to face the Bombers. Both teams entered the contest with one loss and were prepared to leave it all on the court. The Vikings started game one with a few too many errors and at one point found themselves down 4-15. But the Vikings never gave up and battled back to get in the game. The score was finally tied at 22 and then it became an epic battle to gain the victory. Game one ended with the Bombers finally earning the win with a final score of 28-30. The Vikings and Bombers continued to partake in a scrappy battle the rest of the night. The Bombers defeated the Vikings 3-1 with scores of 28-30, 15-25, 25-18, and 21-25. Leaders for the match were Dani Wagner 13 kills, 6 solo blocks 12 digs; Maggie Streightiff 9 kills, 18 set assists; Johanna Bungum, 7 kills, 21 digs; Jessica Foster with 3 kills, 23 set assists.

The Vikings then fell victim to the Stewartville Tigers 3-0 with scores of 25-16, 25-18, and 25-15. It was a tough night overall as many of the starters were having an off night. Jo Bungum, 6 kills, 2 ace serves, 14 digs; Dani Wagner, 5 kills, 2 blocks, 8 digs; Jessie Foster, 10 set assists, 1 block, 10 digs; Maggie Streightiff, 2 kills, 6 set assists; Sydney Tapp, 13 digs; Bhrett Zahnle, 14 digs, 1 ace.

The Hayfield Vikings (7-3 overall, 2-2 conference) will face off against Rochester Lourdes on Tuesday, Sept. 17 and travel to Byron on Thursday.
