The Dodge County boys hockey team found the win column and Coach Eric Hofmann is hoping the momentum will continue into this weekend.

The Wildcats won a pair of games by one point each, beating Waseca 3-2 on December 2 at home and Austin 4-3 on December 3 on the road.

The win over Waseca was an overtime thriller on Senior Night, with Sam Robinson scoring a goal with 19 seconds left on the clock. All the seniors had been introduced out on the ice with their parents before the game and all of them had started.

"We have made some adjustments and are coming out OK," Coach Hofmann said. "We are always better than we were yesterday."

Nic Leisen scored twice in regulation play, once in the first period and once in the third with 3:23 remaining in regulation time to tie the score. Waseca scored both of their goals in the second period.

Joe Biwer made 17 saves for the Wildcats.

Leisen came through again the next day in Austin, scoring his second goal of the game with 4:01 remaining to win the game 4-3. The score had been 3-2 going into the third period.

Kylo Courteau scored 36 seconds into the third period to tie the score at 3-3.

Leisen's first goal came in the first period. Brock Leisen scored a goal in the second period to give Dodge County a 2-1 lead.

Robinson and Kevin Claussen had two assists each.

Kris Kirsch made 34 saves for the Wildcats. Austin had 30. Austin had 37 shots on goal and Dodge County, 34.

The Wildcats' record is 3-2-0.

"We competed well," Coach Hofmann said. "Our penalty kill worked well."

He added that the Wildcats were winning 3-1 over Robinsdale-Cooper last Saturday, but they blew their lead and lost 7-4 in a game they should have won.

"It was an unfortunate loss," he said.

The Wildcats will play at home this Friday.
