The Hayfield boys basketball team jumped out to an 11-2 lead in their game against Stewartville Tuesday night.
The boys went 19-24 in two point shots for the night. "Our balanced scoring has been a key all year long and this game was no different," coach Chris Pack said. "It was a great team win and one of our best games all year."
Score leaders for the night were Cole Kruger 14, Cam Rutledge 12 and Charter Pesch 8. Drew Streightiff added nine rebounds and six assists and Cole Kruger has 9 assists. Hayfield 70, Stewartville 56.
The boys played against Pine Island on Friday evening. They got off a to a sluggish start and trailed by as much as nine points in the first half, 22-13. They were able to rally before halftime and cut the lead to 30-29 but never were able to take the lead in the first half.
The Vikings started the second half on an 8-0 run to take a 37-30 lead and never led by less than five points for the rest of the game.
"We were spectacular from the free throw line, going 12-20 for the game, including 13-14 in the second half," Pack explained.
Stat leaders for the night were Cole Kruger 25 points and 10 assists, Drew Streighiff 17 points.
