The Regional USAT (United States Academic Triathlon) meet of the 2012-2013 school year was held on Friday, March 1 at Byron Middle School. Three USAT teams from Triton Middle School participated in this event. Earning a first place finish overall in the Orange Challenger meet were sixth graders Parker Andrist, Kylie Franko, Olivia Kruger, Shelby Maloney and Rhylan Peterson. Tori Winter served as team alternate. This team qualified to represent both Triton Public Schools and the Zumbro Education District at the Minnesota State USAT Academic Triathlon Tournament at Woodbury Middle School on Saturday, April 13. They earned 270 points out of 300 possible for this award.
The TMS Crosstrainer team of eighth graders Chloe Berg, Madison Boe, Greta Rhodes, Alize' Johnson and Morgan Franko placed fourth overall in the Green Crosstrainer event. Triton's second Crosstrainer team consisting of members Wyatt Wirth, Taylor Schandorff, Johnny Jaeger, Nick Simonette and Mackenzie Hickey, earned fifth place overall in the Blue Crosstrainer meet. Team alternates for the Blue and Green meets were eighth graders, Larissa and Grace Lumsden, Katie Scherger, Kyrielle Peterson and Tatyanna Bond.
TMS teacher, Judy Lewis and THS post-secondary student, Thor Wirth served as Triton's volunteer judges for the competition. Triton Middle School USAT teams are coached by TMS sixth grade teacher, Becky Fredricksen.
