Triton board seeks citizens' help in superintendent search

By Larry Dobson

Triton School District residents are asked to go to the district website, www.triton.k12.mn.us to take a brief survey to help identify the qualifications desired for a new superintendent. Near the bottom of the site on the right side, click on Superintendent Search. On the next screen that appears, on the left side under the Cobra logo, click on Superintendent Search Survey. The survey has five questions to be answered. It would be helpful to the search team if as many people as possible complete the survey, which only takes a couple of minutes.

Triton administrators reported to the school board Monday evening that the newly remodeled and expanded school has been a real blessing to students and staff. Elementary Principal Nancy Stucky said she enjoys looking down the halls at the elementary school and not seeing students and the art cart in the halls for want of classroom space. Middle School Principal Craig Schlichting said have the new gym and classroom space makes it possible to schedule events instead of having to fit middle school events into openings in the high school schedule. High School Principal Brett Joyce said the extra space reduces congestion in the halls and welcomed back the high school space that has been used for middle school classrooms.

The school board approved contracts for:

• Carmen Sutherland as preschool/ECSE assistant;

• Jacob Harmon as middle school teacher;

• Jessica Dailey as elementary teacher;

• Dean Gray as bus driver;

• Rob Coughlin as junior high football coach;

• Teresa Sawyer as educational assistant;

• Julie Bennerotte as educational assistant;

• Sabryn Dostal as Cobra Kids assistant;

• Kaleb Holmes as custodian;

• Don Pischke as educational assistant;

• Corey Mergen as assistant wrestling coach.

The board approved:

• rescinding a resolution previously passed based on bad advice from the Minnesota Dept. of Education. The resolution converted voter approved referendum authority to board approved referendum authority;

• a resolution clarifying that district flex plan funds cannot be used for medical coverage under the Affordable Care Act;

• certifying maximum levy amount, a routine annual business item;

• setting Dec. 16 at 6:01 p.m. as the start time for the regular board meeting to discuss levy and budget;

• an overnight trip to Louisville, KY for Triton FFA members to attend the National FFA Convention Oct. 29-Nov. 2.

Superintendent Robert Kelly reported that attendance this Fall is 1,218. He said for the Triton Open House next Sunday, Sept. 22, visitors will use the Activity entrance and be directed on tours around the building from there. Kelly said there will be a special board meeting Monday at 5 p.m. to go over the superintendent profile for his replacement. Citizen surveys will be among the information used by the search team to create the superintendent profile.
