"it can wait"

By a margin of only 147 text messages, which for today's standards isn't many, Byron High School edged Stewartville last week in the "It can wait" challenge.
The event was a friendly competition and part of a national campaign sponsored by AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon to encourage as many people as possible not to text and drive.
Byron principal Michael Duffy was given a plaque for his school's effort during halftime of Byron's football game at Stewartville Sept. 20.
Thousands of text messages by the students and residents of both cities were received for the contest between Sept. 16 and 20.
"The real winner is all of the kids and community members who made the pledge not to text and drive," Duffy said.
Byron High School senior D.J Logan was killed on the first day of school last year in a two-vehicle accident off County Road 5. In its final report, law enforcement determined that Logan was texting while driving.
