Publisher's Column There's lots going on locally

Wednesday this week is the last day of the grand opening at Sunshine Foods in Dodge Center. There are lots of prizes to win now and an amazing selection of merchandise from which to choose year-round. Stop in this week and get a acquainted.

Thursday night last week, the Byron Chamber of Commerce held its annual meeting at Somerby. As usual, there was great food and great conversation.

This is annual meeting time for all our local chambers and a good time to consider joining, if you are not already a chamber member. You don't have to be a business owner or manager to belong to your local chamber-all that is required is the desire to participate in making your community a better place to live.

Dodge Center Area Chamber of Commerce is next with its annual meeting coming up on Monday, February 4 at the Dodge Center American Legion building. It starts at 6 p.m. with social hour followed by a Windsor pork chop dinner at 7 p.m. A program with entertainment and announcement of the 2012 Business Person of the Year will conclude the evening. The dinner is $15. If you are not a member now, you can join at the event. Members are encouraged to bring potential new members. RSVP Carin Minelli at 374-6645 or cminell2@amfam.com.

Saturday, Feb. 9 is the Hayfield Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting at the Hayfield American Legion. Social hour with appetizers starts at 5:30 p.m. with the dinner at 6:30. Cost is $15. There will be entertainment and announcement of Citizen of the Year. Again, if you are not a member, this is the perfect time to join, and members are encouraged to bring potential new members.

Chamber membership is a great way to get to know your community better, to meet new people and to have a positive effect on the quality of life of everyone in the community. There are projects to tap the talents of anyone interested in sharing what they enjoy doing.

This is also the beginning of the preparation for the Dodge County Home and Business Expo. If you have a business in Dodge County or are a member of a Dodge County Chamber of Commerce, you are invited to exhibit your business at the Expo Saturday April 13, 2013 at Triton High School. There is limited space, so it is important to sign up now. Contact Gerry Fahning at 374-6342 or Larry or Melanie Dobson at 374-6531 or click the Expo logo at for more information. The Expo opens with the Farmers Breakfast at 8 a.m. and runs until 2 p.m.

Have a great week.
