Area food shelves need replenishing
SEMCAC Dodge County held its 20th Annual Food Shelf Christian Concert Sunday afternoon and reminded us that there is an ever growing need for donations of cash and food to help meet the needs of area families. Last year, the local SEMCAC Food Shelf in Kasson served more than 500 families. Already this year, more than 200 families have been served.
While the turnout for the concert was disappointing, those who attended were generous and the results were satisfying. A total of more than $3,500 was raised through goodwill donations and a silent auction. That may sound like quite a bit, but the food shelf goes through six tons of food monthly, so $3,500 won't go very far toward meeting the demand.
There are people in our area who raise extra garden produce to donate to the food shelf. That is a great way to help alleviate local hunger while getting fresh air, sunshine and exercise.
This is Food Shelf Month and food is needed right now, though. Please consider giving a cash donation to SEMCAC or going to the grocery market and buying a bag of groceries to donate.
Dodge County's Food Shelf is located at 20 E. Veterans Memorial Hwy, P.O. Box 36 Kasson, MN 55944. Phone is 634-4350. It is open Tuesdays and Thursday, 9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.-4:00 p.m.
