Howe runs for reelection in Senate District 21

By Ruth Hanson

John Howe is running for a second term in Senate District 21, which runs from Red Wing to Goodview.

"It has been an honor to represent my district for the last two years," he said. "I take my position very seriously. I have put a lot of time into it learning the issues. I have a 100 percent attendance record and have never missed a floor vote. If I am not on a committee, I make sure I get both sides of the issue before making a decision."

He said his four biggest priorities in the next legislature are: tax reform, jobs and the economy, education funding and transportation.

Howe grew up on a Minnesota family farm. He graduated from Chokio-Alberta High School. He earned a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from St. Cloud State University and is close to finishing his master's there.

"I came to Red Wing as a case worker for the Department of Corrections," he said. "I spent 20 years with Sears. I was the mayor of Red Wing from 2008 to 2010, before running for the Senate."

He said he enjoys his work in the Senate, but added that the work takes a lot of time and he is grateful to his family for their understanding.

John and his wife Lisa have three children; Jack, 16; David, 14; and Katelyn, 7.

"And one four-legged named Orlando," he said.

He serves on the tax committee, the jobs and economic growth committee, energy, utilities and telecom committee and is vice-chair of the transportation committee.
